"For those looking for a ray of good news, it is unlikely that temperatures will fall any further."

It doesn’t get much colder than this
If you thought it was cold out this morning, you were right. Temperatures bottomed out at -22.5 C in the town of Holbæk, making it the coldest December day since 1981, when temperatures fell to 25.6 degrees.

The temperature was also the third coldest ever recorded in December.

According to meteorologists, temperatures rarely fall below -20, but say that with no cloud cover, there is nothing to prevent what little warmth there is along the ground from escaping into space.

For those looking for a ray of good news, it is unlikely that temperatures will fall any further.

“We’re about at low as we come,” said Michael Christiansen of the Danish Meteorological Institute, “Minus 22.5 will be a pretty tough one to break.”

The country’s all time coldest temperature was recorded in 1982, in the town of Hørsted, when temperatures fell to a bone-chilling -31.2 degrees.

But, even though temperatures can hardly fall further, meteorologists are calling for the snow to continue piling up tonight and tomorrow.

A snowstorm bringing as much as 15cm of snow is expected to move in over the country this evening.
