The GOP establishment will block the libertarian influence that comes from some Reublican Tea Party members like Ron and Rand Paul. Ron Paul should be the champion of the cause but he is being co-opted by the usual pols and neocons controlled by the corporate elite. We need a party of the people with candidates who pledge not to take money from corporate interests. The two party system in this country looks more and more like the single party systems of the old Soviet Union and Communist China. It doesn't matter who you vote for because they are taking their marching orders from the same people who own them.
Is this the same Al Qaeda that pulled off sophisticated attacks on 9/11 that resulted in the hijacking of 4 planes that got past our air defenses, stymied NORAD, and performed unbelievable maneuvers in flight to crash into the WTC and the Pentagon and left no apparent trace of evidence? Since that time they have struck with an incompetent shoe bomber, a truck with firecrackers in Times Square, an ink toner bomb made up of unworkable computer and phone parts and several other poorly planned and crafted attempts. Yet we are spending $80 billion a year if not more and curtailing our freedoms and liberties to fight off this group which is lead by two supposed dead guys? We are expected to believe this conspiracy theory? Do they take us for idiots? I guess so.
Took the train into Manhattan last night to catch the Black Crowes with my son at the old Nokia Times Square Theater (now the Best Buy Theater). Great show, three and a half hours long. They have become more of a jam band than the last time I saw them. Highlights for me were Soul Singing, Wiser Time and Jealous Again. The air was perfumed with the smell of pot the whole night. Probably impossible not to get a contact high. Times Square is like being in a big Best Buy with all the gigantic video screens. Going to the City is still an experience.
Set list:
Just finishing up Diane Ravitch's book about the problems with NCLB and the current wave of education reform sweeping the nation. It seems NCLB was built on false claims and the education equivalent of a Ponzi scheme. Every board of education member and school administrator needs to read this book. Maybe the lack of improvement the critics claim is taking place is due to our constantly changing approach each year to implement the latest fades which focus on passing the latest assessment based on meaningless data. We are not teaching the content which is what being educated is all about in my book.
How about all those so called experts who said the recovery was in full swing and that those who warned about inflation, high unemployment, continuing bank failures and the ever expanding debt were crazy conspiracy theorists. I hate to say it but, we now know who was right. And it still will be getting much worse unfortunately.
Welcome new readers from Australia, Ecuador, The Philippines, Singapore, Poland, Latvia, Malaysia and Switzerland. It is pretty amazing that some chump from Connecticut can have some impact on folks around the world just by posting a few articles on the web. Now we know why it is viewed as a dangerous form of communication by the power elites. The internet is our last true vestige of democracy. For how long though is the question. Until I have another original thought, peace.
