"Whenever authoritarian leaders seek to oppress and control the masses, one of the first things they do is control access to weapons, or ban it altogether – just as the English did to the Scottish, Irish and Welsh during the Medieval Period."

Yes, Hitler implemented gun control laws before massacring Jews in Holocaust; revisionist leftist media attempts to rewrite history

The mainstream media – and liberal Democrats in general (same thing) – must be getting a little nervous about retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson's meteoric rise in the polls because they have focused their attention, and ire, on him in recent weeks.

The latest phony "gotcha gaffe" with which the media is trying to saddle Carson – who is running second or third to GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, depending on which poll you read – involves comments he made regarding Adolf Hitler and the Nazi mass murder of Jews during World War II.

First, this: You might think that World War II history and Hitler's domestic policies have no bearing on a U.S. presidential election in 2016, but it does. Carson's point is well-made and should be viewed in context and its entirety: that, historically, authoritarian regimes have done whatever was necessary to ensure a more pliable, compliant and less resistant population, and certainly controlling (as in preventing) access to firearms is one tried and true tactic. Everywhere around the world governments, either ban completely or severely limit peoples' ability to access guns, and it's usually those whose leaders have little regard for human life or the rule of law (other than what they determine the "laws" to be).

With that in mind, here is the "controversy":

In recent days during an appearance on the liberal CNN, Carson was asked to "defend" his claim regarding gun control and the Jews' inability to defend themselves against Hitler's death squads because they were unarmed, which was laid out in his new book, A More Perfect Union.

Carson vindicated

As reported by Breitbart News:

Carson contends, "Through a combination of removing guns and disseminating propaganda, the Nazis were able to carry out their evil intentions with relatively little resistance." He defended that argument on national television, explaining, "I think the likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed. I'm telling you there is a reason these dictatorial people take guns first."

To that have the mainstream media at large cynically objected. As Breitbart noted, Good Morning America declared Carson's comments "bizarre." Politico accused Carson of "linking Hitler to gun control," when, in reality, Hitler linked himself to his own gun control policies.

For "rebuttal," the media turned to a liberal ally – the Anti-Defamation League, a "Jewish" organization long known for its anti-gun views.

"Ben Carson has a right to his views on gun control, but the notion that Hitler's gun-control policy contributed to the Holocaust is historically inaccurate," National Director Jonathan Greenblatt told Yahoo! News. "The small number of personal firearms available to Germany's Jews in 1938 could in no way have stopped the totalitarian power of the Nazi German state."

Wow. Isn't that Carson's point – that the Jews had little access to guns so they couldn't, you know, defend themselves?

A lot of truth

Here's the non-politically correct history of the times.

First, the Hitler-spawned "final solution" genocide of the Jews was premised on two factors – one, a population that believed no sane force on Earth, let along highly sophisticated Germans, would systematically murder an entire ethnic group for no rational purpose (other than hate); and two, the disarming of that population before it could realize (and resist) what was happening.

Gun control in Germany came in stages:

-- In 1920, the government essentially seized all firearms.

-- In 1928, the government loosened gun laws but still required citizens to obtain licenses in order to purchase firearms (while banning "gypsies" from obtaining licenses).

-- Until 1938, that law would be used to confiscate guns from Jews or prevent them from having firearms at all.

-- According to legal scholar Stephen Halbrook, in 1933 – when Hitler assumed power – "non-Nazis throughout Germany were disarmed as 'Communists.'" Nazis were, of course, armed.

-- In 1938, Nazi Germany began denying gun rights to Jews under the Weapons Law, which banned gun ownership without a government-approved license. Soon after came orders calling for all Jews to be disarmed, their businesses to be destroyed and anyone who resisted to be shot.

Carson's point is spot on: Whenever authoritarian leaders seek to oppress and control the masses, one of the first things they do is control access to weapons, or ban it altogether – just as the English did to the Scottish, Irish and Welsh during the Medieval Period.
