Federalism Is Dead
Laurence M. Vance
I suppose that it has been dead since the so-called Civil War, but more nails keep being put in its coffin to make sure it does not rise again. The U.S. Supreme Court is hearing a case about license plates in Texas:
The specialty plate at the center of Monday’s case was proposed by the Texas division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV). The tag design features a square Confederate battle flag, along with the organization’s name. Texas produces specialty plates for a fee, but the design must first be approved by the state Department of Motor Vehicles board.
What is the U.S. Supreme Court doing hearing a case about license plates in Texas? Insanity has replaced federalism. It doesn’t matter if you like the license plate or find it offensive. I won’t even comment because it doesn’t even matter. This is a Texas issue. The federal leviathan must be starved.
