Am I correct in assuming you do not own an international bank? Then you might not want to send NATO soldiers to invade Libya to steal their 144 million ounces of gold and to allow the bankers to abscond with that 100 billion dollars in Libyan overseas deposits. The bankers need to steal the wealth of Libya because they fear their bankruptcy more than your death.
We ought to do something professional soldiers do which is to read military history. Or at least require our politicians and media pundits to do so. Gather the children. Let’s begin with The Battle of Berlin. It lasted from 20th of April to May 2nd 1945. The Russians had 1.5 million soldiers if you include 200,000 Poles. The Russians had 6,250 tanks and SPW’s,
7,500 aircraft and 41,600 artillery pieces. The Germans had about 45,000 soldiers, supplemented by the police force, the Hitler Youth and 40,000 elderly men in the Home Guard.
After just 13 days, the Russians scored a decisive victory. Only 81,116 Russian soldiers were dead or missing. Only 280,251 were wounded. Probably many of these men died later on from their wounds.
D-Day, the Normandy invasion of 6-6-1944, involved landing 160,000 soldiers and marines mostly by amphibious assault. Though 24,000 paratroopers arrived earlier that morning behind German lines.
The Lebanon invasion of 2006 lasted from July 12th to August 14th. The Israelis used modern aircraft, tanks and bunker buster bombs supplied by their friends in America. Hezbollah had 3,400 fighters. Many of the Israeli deaths during the Lebanon invasion were caused by easy to use but deadly anti-tank weapons. These include Russian-made At 3, 4, 5, 13 and 14 anti-tank missiles and Iranian made versions of these weapons and TOW missiles (Targeted Occipitally Controlled Weapons). These can be visually guided to a target. They also had MILAN missiles Missile d´infanterie léger antichar: Anti-Tank Light Infantry Missile which are jointly made in France and Germany.
Hezbollah had the advantage of digging underground bunkers and connecting tunnels. They also had the advantage that the Israelis sent an Air Force general to root out men dug into underground bunkers which is the military version of taking a knife to a gun fight. After a month long air war which included an illegal bombardment of their former allies, the Catholic Lebanese, the Israelis gave it up, accepted a UN ceasefire and went home.
The Libyans have a lot more soldiers than the Germans did at Normandy and Berlin. They have 50,000 regulars and up to 1.5 million Home Guard armed with AK-47s and Grenade launchers. The Home Guard is motivated. The black people have been massacred by the Benghazi rebels. Gaddafi has greater support from the blacks of his nation than Obama does of his.
Libyan modernists and women who reject the old ways do not like the fact that the rebels are led by Al Qaeda which have been in the employ of the CIA since the 1970s and fought on the NATO side in Bosnia. Actually, there are two rebel commanders. They have been calling in NATO air strikes against each other’s position. The rebels have stolen over 500 million dollars from the Libyan banks so it is possible that some Libyans think less highly of them for that.
The Libyans have those same Russian and NATO made anti-tank missiles that Hezbollah used to stop the Israelis. They also have Russian anti-aircraft missiles which could be used against NATO helicopters. The US has telegraphed its punch because everyone from Fort Hood to Moscow knows that the US or rather Obama is planning to send a few thousand soldiers and Marines plus some tanks to invade Libya in September or October. This NATO group in size is far short of the Normandy 160,000 man invasion force. Hopefully, the Libyans will not contest the invaders on the beaches. But 1.5 million armed people with some anti-tank missiles can hole up in the cities waiting for a few thousand NATO troops to re-enact the Battle of Berlin.
Fortunately, NATO will not have 80,000 dead and 280,000 wounded but that is only because they have five other shooting wars going right now. And by September or October Obama could have additional wars in Lebanon, Syria and Iran. It is inconceivable that an American general would send 150 NATO tanks and a few thousand Marines and soldiers into Tripoli. That would be suicide...
