“Halfway to Hell”? Public Places Global Warming Concerns Dead Last
Written by William F. Jasper
Alarmists pushing the UN’s anti-carbon climate change agenda claim we are already “Halfway to Hell,” i.e., the arbitrary 2-degrees C above pre-industrial global temperatures that, supposedly will render life impossible. Voters worldwide, apparently, are not buying the hype, despite (or, perhaps, because of) the unceasing propaganda from presidents, prime ministers, legislators, media opinionators, celebrities, and other anointed “experts.”
The 2-degree totem is the invention of Professor William Nordhaus (a Yale economist, not a scientist) that has been transformed from an "intuition" (as Nordhaus called it in 1975) into a dogma by the global warming true believers and globalist schemers.
In all the rants and jeremiads against rising levels of carbon dioxide (a natural gas essential to life) the bottom line relentlessly emphasized by the political classes is that unless humankind limits its CO2-producing activities, global temperatures will hit that dreaded 2 degree mark — and then we’ll all descend, ineluctably, into the fiery abyss. We are already halfway there, so we have only one more degree to go, they warn, before Hades is upon us.
“Halfway to Hell” is the title of a graph depicting global temperatures from 1880 to 2015 that accompanied an article
appearing in the July 29, 2015 issue of New Scientist, a magazine website that pushes the alarmist message. The alliterative title was immediately tweeted throughout Twitterdom and continues to be featured in many stories that pose as “news.”
However, it appears that the intended global audience is insufficiently convinced that the alleged planetary meltdown point is either real or imminent, or that one should embrace the UN’s upcoming Paris Climate Summit as one’s very tip-top priority.
According to a massive global survey of more than seven million individuals, fears of global warming rate dead last among issues that concern most people. The polling was carried out by the UN-affiliated website, MY World, which describes itself thusly:
MY World is a United Nations global survey for citizens. Working with partners, we aim to capture people’s voices, priorities and views, so world leaders can be informed as they begin the process of defining the next set of global goals to end poverty.
What are the issues that matter most to most people? Here’s the list in descending order:
A good education
Better healthcare
Better job opportunities
An honest and responsive government
Affordable and nutritious food
Protection against crime and violence
Access to clean water and sanitation
Support for people who can’t work
Better transport and roads
Reliable energy at home
Equality between men and women
Political freedoms
Freedom from discrimination and persecution
Protecting forests, rivers, and oceans
Phone and Internet Access
Action taken on climate change (Emphasis added.)
The UN’s MYWorld survey further confirms what other opinion polls, such as the March 2015 Gallup poll, have repeatedly shown, to wit that the obsession of the political elites for empowering the United Nations with global regulatory powers is a top-down effort, with little popular support. Understandably, support for the UN global warming agenda rates lowest in the developing countries, which are the supposed primary beneficiaries of the UN’s plans. People who do not have clean drinking water and who have to worry about being tortured and murdered by their own governments do not have the luxury of NGO activists in Europe and America to protest, demonstrate, and agitate — and shut down the very industries that can enable developing countries to lift themselves out of abject poverty.
Another reason for lack of public support for the UN agenda is the growing awareness that in spite of all the continuous huffing and puffing by the global warming alarmist choir, the fact is that the climate data records show there has been no rise in global surface temperature for more than eighteen-and-one-half years (see here and here).
Yet another reason for the disconnect is that the United Nations and its Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have so thoroughly discredited themselves — repeatedly — that they have become less and less believed every time they cry “Wolf!”
However, it is probably safe to assume that there would be literally zero support for UN action on climate change if the targeted “world citizens” were aware, even to the slightest degree, what the actual price tag is that the would-be climate “saviors” would like to charge for the pretended solution to this non-crisis. As we have reported previously, the UN globocrats are demanding that humanity come forth with trillions of dollars for their climate agenda.
The daily deluge of Big Government and Big Media propaganda notwithstanding, the political powers that be still have a major task ahead of them to create the appearance of genuine popular support in time for the UN’s big November-December climate confab in Paris.
