Dwight Eisenhower said: “The Japanese were ready to surrender and it wasn’t necessary to hit them with that awful thing.”

Thank God for the Deaths of 200,000 Civilians

Actually, the article in the War Street Journal was titled “Thank God for the Atomic Bomb.” [subscription required to read; let me know if you can find it online somewhere] A critique of the article is here. Dwight Eisenhower said: “The Japanese were ready to surrender and it wasn’t necessary to hit them with that awful thing,” and he was, of course, correct, but even if Japan was not ready to surrender, I would say that it is never right, or just, or moral to kill 200,000 civilians to possibly prevent the deaths of an unknown number of soldiers. And see also my article “Nuclear Christians.”
