A nickel is worth over seven cents due to its' copper and nickel content...

Hold on to those nickels. Basically, $100 worth of nickels is worth $145.80 in metal. Pretty soon it will be too expensive for the government to mint them in their present form. That's almost a 50% return in value. Every time you go to the bank ask for a roll of nickels for two dollars worth of the governments worthless fiat paper money. Save them now while you still can find them...

1946-2010 Nickel

Using the latest metal prices and the specifications above, these are the numbers required to calculate melt value:

$4.4691 = Copper price / pound on Mar 03, 2011.
0.75 = Copper %
.00220462262 = pound/gram conversion factor (see note directly below)
$13.0504 = Nickel price / pound on Mar 03, 2011.
0.25 = Nickel %
.00220462262 = pound/gram conversion factor (see note directly below)
5.00 = total weight in grams

1. Calculate 0.75% value :
(4.4691 × .00220462262 × 5.00 × 0.75) = $0.036947546066408

2. Calculate 0.25% value :
(13.0504 × .00220462262 × 5.00 × 0.25) = $0.03596400880006

3. Add the two together :
$0.036947546066408 + $0.03596400880006 = $0.072911554866467

$0.072911554866467 is the melt value for the 1946-2010 Nickel on Mar 04, 2011.
