US believes Spain to be Al-Qaeda base and target
The US State Department on Thursday evening issued a report regarding terrorist activity in 2009 in which it highlighted two of its key conclusions: That Spain is being used as a base by Al-Qaeda and that the new Basque Government's antiterrorist policy is "less unequivocal for dealing with ETA".
The US Government considers that during 2009, Spain continued to be "an important base" for terrorist organisations and that (the country) "worked hard to prevent terrorist acts that may have been aiming at US interests".
