Isn't that great. You get to pay for the oil spill and its' clean up. I'm sure any residual tax savings will be passed on to you and not to the military-industrial complex in the way of increased spending on new wars or in new banker bailouts. The carbon tax is a scheme to raise your taxes and nothing else. They tried to scare us into one with the global warming hysteria but that seems to be failing. They are going to keep pushing for this until they get it, unfortunately. BP can give out billions of dollars this week to it's investors but now we have to consider raising our taxes to pay for the cleanup they are responsible for. See additional link below. It must be nice to be a member of the global corporate elite. Where can I get an application for membership?
BP oil spill may fuel drive for carbon taxThe downside is that it, like cap-and-trade, could also lower economic growth and employment by a "modest amount," according to the Congressional Budget Office.
But a carbon tax can also be pro-growth. A US$100-per-ton levy would boost gas prices by US$1 a gallon (while also making coal and natural gas pricier) and eventually generate US$500-billion a year in new government revenue. Payroll or corporate taxes could then be lowered by an equal amount.Link:
