Two weeks of rain expected to fall in one day in some parts

The summer may be only weeks away but snow was predicted to fall in parts of Britain today.

Freezing temperatures and heavy rain meant high areas of England, Wales and Scotland could have seem light snow or sleet. On the plus side, if snowflakes did appear they were not expected to settle.

The Met Office's Emma Corrigan said: ‘At the moment there’s quite cool air across the UK. Later, as the weather system pushes northwards, where there is heavy rain you may see some flakes of snow...
