We're all crazy now....

Newest edition of psychiatric diagnostic manual to unleash wave of over-medication

by: Ethan A. Huff

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) recently released the latest edition of its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, also known as DSM-5, which the psychiatric profession will use as a guidebook to diagnose and treat mental illness. But as we have been saying for the past several years with regards to its various drafts, the manual erroneously reclassifies a host of normal human behaviors as diseases, which will most assuredly lead to a wave of over-medication across the country.

Many otherwise healthy individuals are already being inappropriately medicated for diseases they do not actually have in accordance with the guidelines of DSM-IV, which is the manual's previous release. But as explained by Dr. Keith Ablow in a recent piece for Fox News, there are at least 160 new "disorders" listed in DSM-5 that are not actually disorders at all, which means many more folks will be prescribed dangerous antidepressants and even deadly antipsychotics for no legitimate reason.

"This is the saddest moment in my 45-year career of studying, practicing and teaching psychiatry," wrote Dr. Allen Frances when DSM-5 was finally approved for publication in its current flawed form. Dr. Frances used to chair the APA task force responsible for creating DSM-IV. "The Board of Trustees of the American Psychiatric Association has given its final approval to a deeply flawed DSM-5, containing many changes that seem clearly unsafe and scientifically unsound."

"My best advice to clinicians, to the press, and to the general public - be skeptical and don't follow DSM-5 blindly down a road likely to lead to massive over-diagnosis and harmful over-medication."

DSM-5 developed by Big Pharma to expand markets, boost profits

As you may recall, it was revealed from earlier drafts of DSM-5 that many typical human behaviors and emotions would soon be recognized by the psychiatric industry as mental illnesses in desperate need of treatment. Normal feelings of sadness following the loss of a loved one, for instance, would now be considered a depressive emotional disorder, while children who throw temper tantrums would be considered at high risk of developing bipolar disorder.

Virtually every thought, activity, emotion, feeling, and expression of humanity, it turns out, would have some sort of disorder tacked onto it in the new DSM-5, a disturbing fact that generated a considerable amount of controversy not only among outside onlookers, but also among those within the field of psychiatry. But unfortunately, none of these concerns would ever be properly addressed, as the final version of DSM-5 still contains these fake diseases.

The obvious reason for this is divulged by Dr. Ablow, who highlights the fact that Big Pharma exerted heavy influence in the crafting of DSM-5. Nearly half of all the DSM-5 task force and working group members who came up with the ridiculous new disease "binge eating disorder" had financial ties to pharmaceutical companies, it turns out. And the same is true for those who developed the new disorder "minor neurocognitive impairment," which basically just describes occasional forgetfulness as it accompanies old age - an astounding 89 percent of DSM-5 task force and working group members who came up with this phony disease received payments from drug companies.

"This should be - but probably will not be - the last Diagnostic and Statistical Manual from the American Psychiatric Association, because the APA has lost its credibility as an organization able to accurately describe what patients suffer from and how psychiatrists actually heal people," writes Dr. Ablow. "We in psychiatry need an honest, accurate diagnostic manual - and we don't have one."
