The Empire & Its Big Steaming Piles
By Chris Rossini
It's never enough for The Empire. For the last 100 years, it has been devouring everything in sight, and it can't stop.
When it comes to foreign adventures, there are piles of U.S. bases everywhere, piles of U.S. troops everywhere. Piles of casualties, piles of injuries, piles of military suicides, and piles of taxpayer money flying in every direction. Billions are "lost" by the Pentagon. Billions are "lost" by the State Dept. No one knows where the money went (wink, wink), and frankly no one really cares.
Trillions have been lost in a pleathora of failed wars and "police actions" and new ones are being planned and taken on without a hitch. Vietnam? North Korea? Iraq? Afghanistan? Libya?
Never happened!....Let's move on to Russia & Iran!
The military-industrial complex gets just about everything that it wants. They must be shaking their heads in disbelief at how easy it is. The American public is in a hazy fog. It's all just numbers at this point: billions, trillions, zillions...
And still...and still...it's not enough for the Neocons. Bill Kristol is sick of the "war-weariness" and is hoping for a real leader to appear someday, a real knight in shining armor to whip up the war fever!
Then there is the other side of equation...Let's move away from the war machine for a minute.
The Fed now routinely creates trillions of dollars out-of-thin-air. There are piles of "excess reserves," piles of unimaginable debt, piles of "toxic assets," piles of malinvestments, piles of unemployed, and piles of welfare recipients.
And still...and still...it's not enough for the Keynesians. Paul Krugman wants more QE. It's never big enough. Inflation is too low. The Fed needs to raise its inflation target!
Just like the military-industrial complex, the banksters get just about everything they want. The first TARP was $700 million. What the next one will be? The banksters must be shaking their heads in disbelief at how easy it is. Once again, the American public is in a hazy fog....billions, trillions, zillions, what's the difference?
I'm going to let Tom Friedman of the New York Times sum up the psychosis for you.
Here's his take:
If we want to do more nation-building abroad, then we have to come together on a plan to do more nation-building at home first — including infrastructure investment, replacing income and corporate taxes with a carbon tax, a major new push for both energy efficiency and properly extracted natural gas, skill-building and immigration reform and gradual long-term fiscal rebalancing. That’s how we build our muscle and weaken Putin’s.
What is most scary to me about the world today is the fact that we are doing neither smart nation-building abroad to make the world more stable nor smart nation-building at home to make America more resilient and strong. We need both to be safe. We need more leverage from nation-building at home to have the staying power to lift others, but we also need those foreigners to provide a solid, unified foundation so our leverage can work.
It's not enough...anywhere!
The Empire can't stop, and it's terminally ill.
It's fast turning much of the populated Earth into one big steaming pile.
