Gettysburg 150: Part Two...

Another great thing about the Gettysburg 150 celebration was the living history encampments of both Confederate and Union troops on the battlefield. These participants were invited by the National Park Service for their experience and knowledge of soldier life during the Civil War. After speaking with several of them I guess you can say they are the "expert" reenactors who can answer any question you might have about soldier life in the 1860's. There were quite a few more Union than Confederate living historians and I could find no explanation for that.

This batch of photos was taken in Pitzer's Woods where a small group of living historians set up camp. We got to sample some authentic Confederate food called corn-pone which tastes like cornbread with a little too much molasses added to it. But it probably was more preferable than the Union staple hardtack...
