The Pentagon, the Troublemaker

My article this past Tuesday, “Partnering with the Communists,” detailed how the Pentagon is doing its best to partner with the communist regime in Vietnam in order to provoke crises with China.

The Pentagon’s troublemaking strategy is already working. According to Reuters, “Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday he will boost military cooperation with China, including holding more joint exercises, after the United States announced plans to shift most of its warships to the Asia-Pacific by 2020. Putin referred to recent Sino-Russian joint navy exercises in the Yellow Sea as an example of military cooperation which, he said, would go on.”

You see? How long before the Pentagon and the CIA will begin making ominous announcements of a renewal of the Cold War, when the communists were threatening to conquer the United States? Why, before long they’ll be telling us that the communists and the terrorists are coming to get us, at the same time, and that the national-security state is the only thing preventing that from happening.

Of course, the statists “solution” will remain what it has been since 1947, when the national-security state was called into existence to oppose the Soviet communists, which had been America’s ally and partner in World War II. The Pentagon and the CIA will soon be proclaiming: “This confirms that the giant U.S. overseas military empire, the Cold War national security state, and the CIA are more important than ever. We must keep them as permanent parts of America’s ‘free’ society. We must continue to have ever-increasing military and intelligence budgets. Our national security depends on it.”

Meanwhile, the Pentagon and the CIA are back in Latin America stirring up trouble there too. Check out, for example, this article, which details the Pentagon’s establishment of a new military base in Chile. Isn’t Chile where the Chilean military establishment installed Pinochet’s brutal military dictatorship in a U.S.-supported coup?

When people within Latin American countries resist U.S.-supported dictatorships, we’ll once again see the death squads, the rape squads, and the torture squads, whose forces, once again, will have been trained at the U.S. military’s School of the Americas. The squads will once again be killing those no-good “communists” and “terrorists” who are resisting the “freedom” of U.S.-supported tyranny.

Moreover, we’ve now got the military and the CIA entrenching themselves even more in the Latin American drug war, training troops, participating in raids, and helping to kill people. Americans don’t allow the Pentagon and the CIA to enforce drug laws here in the United States but we do send them into Latin America to do so.

What happens when some drug cartel retaliates against the Pentagon and the CIA by setting off a bomb in some U.S. federal building along the border? Why, we’ll have another justification for keeping the national-security state in existence — the drug dealers, along with the renewed Cold War against the communists, and the everlasting “war on terrorism.”

In a time of ever-increasing taxes, spending, and debt, it’s time for the American people to do some serious reevaluating. The national-security state was brought into existence to fight the Cold War. The Cold War ended a long time ago. Why then wasn’t the national security state dismantled at that time? Why was it permitted to remain in existence? Why shouldn’t it be dismantled now, before it causes any more trouble for the American people?
