The Nuclear Disaster: Alternative v. Corporate Media
I rarely read mainstream news articles. They aren’t worth my time - I can rip apart the accuracy of just about every article put on the front page. There is a huge disconnect between the news I read (and share) and what passes for news in the corporate media. As an example, listed below are news articles that I have read (or at least thoroughly scanned) over the past two day. If I hosted my own news blog, these articles would be my front page posts today:
No end in sight for Fukushima disaster as bureaucrats battle the laws of physics
Record Levels Of Radiation Detected In Pacific - Heading Toward US
Fukushima: A Month of Media Disinformation
Japan raises Fukushima to Level 7, same as Chernobyl
Japanese Government: No need to change the way the crisis in Fukushima is being handled
Japan TV: Temperature in spent fuel pool at No. 4 “much higher than the normal level” — “May be boiling”
Nuclear engineer: Enormous amount of plutonium at No. 4 spent fuel pool in danger of catching fire; Pool is cracked and leaking
No, Japan's Nuclear Reactors Are Not "Stable"
Very large spike of I-131, Cs-137 levels 100 miles from Fukushima after radiation skyrocketed off the chart at No. 1 reactor following recent quake
Japan gov’t worried reactor buildings are in danger of collapse — “We must devise some ways” to reinforce structures despite high radiation
TEPCO: Nuclear fuel rods in No. 4 spent fuel pool are “confirmed to be damaged” — First time damage revealed at any pool
Highly radioactive “lake” has built up in the depths of Fukushima
Yes, a little heavy on the doom, but I don’t believe we can solve our problems until we address them. The mainstream media prefers to bury these truths. I scanned Google News, Yahoo News, the Drudge Report, Fox News and the New York Times for information on Fukushima and the radiation dangers. It’s frustrating beyond belief. Look carefully at the links below and see if you can find anything about Japan. It’s been the same all week - I check for news on the big, corporate sites and I get nothing substantial, if anything at all. Half the time Japan and/or Fukushima doesn’t make the top stories, although I keep seeing the name Justin Bieber a whole lot. He is evidently mega newsworthy. Here are today’s headlines from the aforementioned “news” sites. Look what the corporate media is feeding you. Click on the links to Japan (if you can find them) and see how the articles downplay the disaster.
According to Google news, here are the stories we need to read to stay informed of world events:
