Urban environmental training by Special Ops Unit
MANTEO, NC (WAVY) - The Special Operations Unit from Pope Air Force Base will be conducting urban environmental training exercises in Nags Head and Roanoke Island on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dare County officials announced.
Residents are urged not to be alarmed if they see military vehicles and armed soldiers.
According to county authorities, the exercises will involve uniformed, armed soldiers and four vehicles, including two military gun trucks practicing clearing and security procedures in Nags Head and Roanoke Island.
The training exercises are scheduled for the afternoon hours of Tuesday, and the morning hours of Wednesday.
The Air Force plans to avoid areas of Nags Head and Roanoke Island that are near schools and the hospital.

I for one do not like the idea of armed troops on my local streets, for either training or a martial law type scenario. I do not like the acclimation of seeing troops from the Army at the Kentucky Derby to Marines at DUI checkpoints. There is a law, the 1878 posse comitatus act that bans military from policing the people of the US. The law was put in place to keep the US from becoming a third world police state.

Thanks for the comments. I hope more people start to come to the realization of what is happening to our country. It took me 53 years to wake up. The past three I've seen my views on most issues turned around 180 degrees. I used to be a left leaning liberal who only voted for Democrats. Now I'm neither right nor left. I've actually become more libertarian and judge politicians along those lines. We need a new political party free of corporate control that will have the interests of the people at it's core.
