Snow covers 71 percent of U.S.
Washington, DC, United States (AHN) - A winter storm that has battered the southern U.S. the past few days caused air and road travel disruption and has covered 71 percent of the country with snow.
According to the National Weather Service, the snow covered regions went up to 71 percent on Wednesday from 69 percent on Tuesday. The NWS pointed out 49 of 50 states had snow on the ground. The only state without snow on the ground is Florida.
NWS said the volume of snow is more than twice the snow that fell in December. In Central Park in New York City, up to eight inches of snow blanketed the city, while 12 inches of snow were recorded in New Jersey and Connecticut.
At least 14 people have died from snow-related incidents. Connecticut police responded to 900 car crashes, minor collisions and stranded cars in the state where some parts registered more than 24 inches of snowfall.
