Welcome to the Banana Republic of the USA where we still have Enron style elections
Verified Voting Foundation reports thatin the2010 Primaries we will have more recounts than recountable elections!Future state, local and presidential contests are at risk because many states still have paperless electronic voting, poor chains of custody or poor election practices, flawed voter registration databases, voter caging, deceptive mailers, robo calls, and voter suppression. A new threat has been added to the equation, the 1000 times worse, inherently insecure Internet Voting and Email Balloting.
The US has ENRON style elections where in many cases there isn't any paper to shred or voting software is prone to error or makes malfeasance easy to hide:
Just this week, in Garland County Arkansas, thousands of votes disappeared, and election officials could not explain how or why. SeeJune 4,Exclusive: Impossible Election Results in Monroe County, Arkansas Puzzle State, Local Officials
Just this week,in Monroe County Arkansas, where there is a hotly contested US Senatorial runoff between incumbent Blue Dog Blanche Lincoln vs Lt Gov Halter, officials chose to open only 2 polling places instead of the usual 42in a Halter stronghold. This resulted in long lines and waits, plus increased distance for voters to travel in order to vote. Such tactics often harm the vulnerable voter populations most - folks who can't miss long periods of work or who don't have good transportation.
